Barbara Kristanic is a partner at Nathens, Siegel LLP. Barbara obtained her undergraduate Honours Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Toronto. Barbara went on to study law at Toronto’s Osgoode Hall Law School. During her studies there, Barbara decided to broaden both her legal and cultural experience by participating in a one year exchange program in Syndey, Australia. Barbara obtained her law degree in 2003 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2004.
Barbara developed her passion for family law early on in her career. Barbara has practiced exclusively family law since her call to the Bar in 2003, articling with a sole practitioner in family law and then practicing with a boutique family law office prior to her arrival at Nathens, Siegel LLP in 2007. In 2009, Barbara joined Ken and Brahm and became partner with the firm. Barbara has enjoyed every moment working at Nathens, Siegel LLP. The firm has developed an excellent team of lawyers and staff that work together every day not only to meet their client’s needs and to protect their interests, but to ensure that they are guided through the process every step of the way.
Over the years, Barbara has developed extensive experience in virtually all areas of family law including: custody, access, child and spousal support as well as complex property division. Barbara has experience addressing these issues by way of negotiating cohabitation agreements, marriage contracts, separation agreements and by obtaining court orders.
Having seen the positive effects that a respectful negotiation has on clients and their families, Barbara has developed a particular fondness for resolving matters for her clients through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation, arbitration, and in particular, through the collaborative family process. Barbara has a high rate of settling matters for her clients on a satisfactory basis.
Though Barbara does prefer to settle matters if and where possible, Barbara realizes that not all matters are appropriate for alternative dispute resolution and that a push is sometimes required.  As such, Barbara will not hesitate to vigorously represent her clients’ interests in court. Barbara has experience in the courts of the Greater Toronto Area.
Barbara is a member of several legal organizations, including the Ontario Bar Association, the Toronto Family Lawyer’s Association, the Peel Law Association, as well as various Collaborative Law associations. Barbara is also a Presenter for the Mandatory Family Information Program at the Brampton courthouse.
Barbara offers services in both English and Croatian out of both our North York and Mississauga office. Barbara and her husband have two young children that keep them busy, however, in her spare time, Barbara enjoys travelling and spending time with family and friends. To maintain focus, Barbara enjoys running and practicing pilates.
